Natural Freshwater Pearls

When it comes to the subject of jewellery, there is nothing better to discuss but the quality of gemstones, what they are worth, and how one can find the finest pieces of them. The Orient is blessed with an abundance of freshwater and with it the gifts that are natural freshwater pearls.
Freshwater pearls come from mussels or oysters and they are formed naturally through the presence of a foreign matter inside them that causes irritation. Once they start secreting nacre, the natural formation of pearls occurs.

Natural freshwater pearls, unlike cultured ones are very sensitive. That is, they can be easily scratched or damaged if not taken cared of properly. It is very important that you know the proper care for these gems because their worth and beauty lies greatly on the integrity of their structure. If you have different kinds of jewellery, you will do well to remember putting your freshwater pearls in a separate box or container apart from all your other pieces. It is also advisable to keep them in soft pouches like velvet or silk.

When you are wearing a piece of jewellery made of freshwater pearls, you have to remember that your skin’s acidity level affects the integrity of the gemstones. The longer they are exposed to high acidity levels, the shorter their wearability lifespan. In order to prevent the pearls from losing their lustre too soon, make sure that you polish them with very soft cloth after taking them off and before storing them back to the box or pouch.
