Akoya Pearl Earrings Are Real Eye Catchers

Women of all cultures always seek after simple elegance. Akoya pearls have always been the pearls of choice. These pearls are uniquely brilliant and perfectly round which makes them best sellers. These pearls are also known for their pristine clarity and minimal inclusions.

Pinctata Fucata is the name of the species and they have always been abundant in Japanese ocean waters. These oysters are smaller than other pearl oysters. When fully grown these oysters measure about 3 to 5 inches in diameter. These akoya pearls range in sizes from 2mm to 9mm. Unlike some larger species, akoya oysters can accept multiple nuclei, which is a bead made from the shells of freshwater mollusks.

Akoya pearl earrings come in a variety of soft colors. White is the traditional color of akoya pearl earrings, but they also come in cream, peach, emerald green and blue green. Whether these pearls are elaborately adorn with fancy settings of diamonds and gold or just a simple stud, they are always elegant and definitely catches the eye. Perfectly round cultured pearl earrings average 7.5mm to 8.5mm in size and because of their hardness they can be drilled easily without incident and nicely mounted on studs.

Akoya Pearl Earrings - An Exquisite Choice of Jewelry

The most classic of pearls on the market is unquestionably the Akoya pearl. This is the oldest pearl to be cultured in modern times and is still very popular among pearl lovers worldwide. Large sizes always go for a premium but medium sizes are more popular and affordable to most consumers of these pearls.

Akoya pearl earrings are usually set in 14k or 18k yellow gold in studs or in a simple dangling style. Sometimes akoya pearls are mixed in with freshwater pearls to give a little more color to the pearl jewelry. Most of the popular sizes are six or seven millimeter round shape for the akoya earrings. Anything over eight millimeter starts to become very expensive as this size is mostly cultivated in Japan and is quite rare and pricey. There are even nine millimeter pearls on the market but these are extremely expensive and are usually not seen in jewelry stores.
